Diesel Locomotives

The foundation of the Arnold N-Scale product line was a model of the German V200 diesel hydraulic locomotive.  It was a popular choice.  The V200 was all-German, from its twin Mercedes diesels to its hydraulic transmission by Voith to its Krauss-Maffei car body.  Although there were other diesels on the Deutsche Bundesbahn’s roster, it was the V200 that was most prominent.  Here is a timetable of the Deutsche Bundesbahn of the 1960’s, showing the V200 as it’s signature locomotive:

Virtually every model railroad product line manufactured in Germany had a V200 model. Even Volkswagen got into the act, with their microbus and commercial trucks of that era having a front that echoed the V200.

The other ubiquitous diesel in Arnold’s product line was the F-Unit.  From the very crude 0265 to the more refined 0215, the American F-Unit was part of the Arnold product line, as it was with many other manufacturers.
