These are the Arnold rapido track items as listed in the 1970/1971 catalog. Arnold uses the term “electric switch” for their track turnouts; these are also sometimes called “remote switches”, meaning that they can be operated from a remote location by a push button or other mechanism.

(a) The Arnold rapido track switches were manufactured to be “current routing”, which means that the track beyond the switch was powered only when the switch points were aligned in that direction. This was a useful feature, since you could stop trains through the use of the track switches only. For whatever reason, Arnold also marketed these track switches without this feature for about 15% less cost.
(b) These are solenoid devices that are fitted to the “electric” switches. This part could be used to convert manual switches into electric ones or to repair an electric switch that had failed.
