Rokal TT

These pages detail the model train product line manufactured by Rokal of Lobberich, Germany.  The Rokal line was manufactured to European standards for TT-Scale.  In general, TT is a size of model train which is smaller than H0 but is larger than N. There is a minor difference between “European” standards for TT and “American” standards for TT. Both use a track gauge of 12mm, but the Europeans built their trains to a scale of 3mm = 1 Foot while the Americans built to 1/10th of a foot equals a foot in the real world.  Not immediately apparent is the minor difference between the two approaches.

As with many other German-made model trains, the Rokal line offered a complete range of items from locomotives and cars to track, electrical controls, signals and scale buildings. As with other German model trains, the train operator could create a model railroad which was fully automated, allowing many trains to run at the same time.

Rokal ceased manufacturing its model train line in about 1968 when the company ran into financial trouble, but the firm continued production, making plumbing fixtures and other items made of cast metal, until the end of 2008.
